Course Descriptions
Understanding Course Classifications & Numbers
ASCL courses are numbered by category for our major requirements, not by their level of difficulty.
None of the courses numbered in the 50s, 60s and 70s have prerequisites.
Use these guidelines when calculating your DS and IITD distribution:
- ASCL 09.XX courses count as DS courses.
- ASCL 10.XX and 11.XX courses count as IITD courses.
- Students can substitute an additional ASCL 1 for an IITD course for the major.
- DS (Discipline Specific) courses are numbered in the 50s and 60s.
- IITD (Interdisciplinary, Interregional, Transnational, Diaspora) courses are numbered in the 70s.
- Advanced Seminars (which count as the culminating experience) are numbered in the 80s.
